Process for conferring REFEDs Recommendation status (Draft 0.1)

The REFEDs Steering Committee may determine that any document, whether originated within REFEDs or elsewhere, has achieved sufficient support among the REFEDs community to be formally considered as a REFEDs Recommendation. The Steering Committee must reach consensus before conferring the status of REFEDs Recommendation on a particular document.

The Steering Committee must satisfy itself that a document being considered for Recommendation status is hosted at a stable, maintained, web location; and that it is available under a licence likely to be appropriate for REFEDs participants.

When the Steering Committee are considering conferring or withdrawing REFEDs Recommendation status on any document, a message must be sent to the REFEDs mailing list inviting comments on the proposal. A period of at least three weeks’ must be allowed between this message and the Steering Committee’s consideration of the comments and decision on whether to confer Recommendation status. A list of documents on which Recommendation status has been conferred, as well as those being considered for that status, shall be available on the REFEDs website, including a hyperlink to the current version of each document.

This process may be changed by the Steering Committee by following the above notification process.

Notes:

  • "Document" should be interpreted widely including, for example, software
  • The status of Recommendation does not imply that a document is mandatory
  • No labels
