Discussion Items

REF17-1: pretty straightforward.

REF-17-2: All WG will continue including OIDC which is now pretty active. We'll ask Niels to chair the WG. IdP of last resort WG will continue, but it may end before the end of 2017.

REF17-3: More promotion on ECs. Requests to revamp the discovery guide, so this is certainly an item REFEDS should look at. As there is a clear benefit for SPs as well, LF proposes to have also AARC contributing to this work. WRT to consent TL noted it would be better not to bundle consent with the discovery.

There is a proposal to engage more with publishers. As starting point, Heather will track what publishers are doing and report back to REFEDS. This could become a WG if there is enough engagment. MM suggested to create a promo material to motivate publishers to do federated access.

A recurrent request is to have a federation service catalogue. MET is very high-level tool not meant to solve this problem. The proposal for 2017 is that REFEDS to spec out the use-cases, define what is needed to address them, the costs and maintenance. This work will be outsourced this to Heather (REF17-3E).

REF17-4A - Mostly a placeholder to keep an eye on this item.

REF17-4C - Should be a WG? Or should be outsourced to Ian? Too early to say.

REF17-4D - This is a longer term work item, that covers several aspects. NH suggests to send an email to the general REFEDS list to scope what to do in 2017.

REF18-D - REFEDS is not the best place to run services. MET is certainly something useful. REEP will be kept alive, but it was agreed that REFEDS should not keep investing in this. FedLab sadly didn't fly, the idea is still very valid. ACTION: REFEDS to make a proposal to run it/fund it under GN4; the long term operations should be subjected to a business case.

Action Items

  • Nicole Harris to explore if there is an interest in GN4 to finalise FedLab
