Notes:

  1. Open Actions
  2. Administrivia
    1. Contracts - Preferred supplier was selected (Heather Flanagan). Contract is waiting for additional signatures within GEANT and concerns within GEANT procurement
    2. Budget - Nicole has been asked to submit the predictive budget for 2020. Biggest changes will be the DE program.
  3. Upcoming Meetings
    1. Hackathons (Nordunet Technical Workshop and I2 TechEx)
      1. Hackathon at NTW - 23 September 2019, Copenhagen
      2. Hackathon at I2 TechEx - 10-11 December 2019, New Orleans
        1. The hackathons have both tactical and strategic objectives. From a tactical perspective, we're trying to get more people working on the code bases. From a strategic perspective, we want to get more people engaged in REFEDS.
          • Heather Flanaganto write up a blog post on the objectives for the hackathons and why they are important to REFEDS; focus on demonstrating the value proposition for REFEDS
    2. REFEDS at Tech-Ex.
      1. Proposed items include: the REFEDS annual survey, planning for the 2020 workplan, a eduGAIN maturity baseline discussion, planning for a crisis management exercise
  4. Encouraging broader participation
    1. DE Program
      1. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Yw2ugwnFCt2dDxFWHE2iEFftPXL_SRfs_iE3cEG-uOo/edit#
        1. Good feedback, and should definitely do this again next year. Would like to keep it at two people to make sure it stays competitive.
        2. Maybe do a session at the first breakout opportunity purely for newcomers? That's something that's worked at ACAMP. Maybe this could be something to add to the general TNC agenda? There is a TNC101 that happens on Monday mornings, but it is not well advertised.
        3. One particular challenge will be the difficulty in getting visas for 2020. Will need to start early.
          • Heather Flanaganto follow up with DEs on getting the blog posts out
          • Nicole Harris to talk to Brook and Sigita about expanding on the federation work during the TNC101 session
    2. Hackathons - see above
    3. Quarterly "welcome" messages to the list - this is a new thing; Heather sent the first one out on 7 August 2019. Positively received.
  5. Review of 2019 Workplan
    1. REF19-1: Nicole will be getting started on the annual survey later this month; expect it to be sent out in September
      1. Tom suggests some question(s) that would help inform the eduGAIN baseline work
    2. REF19-2: Fed 2.0, FOG, SPOG, SIRTFI, and Assurance are busy through the summer. Fed 2.0 in particular is super busy right now. OIDCre has been officially closed.
    3. REF19-3: Most of the work here has converted into a working group, SPOG.
    4. REF19-4: Schema Editorial Board has been meeting and slowly going through the list of proposed work items against eduPerson; any final changes to eduPerson will go for broad community consultation, but day-to-day discussion happens on the schema-discuss list.
    5. REF19-5: Still tangling with what to do with MET; note that MET is not under contract right now. Holding off on putting together a maintenance contract until we also know what features we want to ask for.
  6. 2020 Workplan Preparation
    1. Post-TNC19 meeting item: map the results from the Federation 2.0 WG so far to the REFEDS mission and the ‘multiyear’ plan
    2. Should add eduGAIN baseline expectations work
    3. Considerations for future strategic planning: should REFEDS consider becoming a standards body for federation standards?
  7. Next call scheduled for 21 November 2019 at 20:00 UTC
  8. AOB
