REFEDS 45 - 5 December 2022 - meeting is coming together, but we could use a few more community updates. The final panel session is also coming together; Chris Phillips is excited about moderating that. Over 100 people have registered to attend. Expect more IdP operators in the room than usual.
Annual Survey
Good input on the SC mailing list to add questions. Plans are to get it out tomorrow. Very much hoping we get back to regular levels of participation. Survey will remain open through December. Results will be shared in a report and in a community chat in the new year.
We would like input on participation in the WGs, but we can get that information from the wiki.
Administrative Home for REFEDS
Nicole chatted with Eric on the topic. He is very sympathetic to the problem, but GEANT cannot alter the tax rulings. He is willing to make a small contribution from GEANT to help offset the VAT burden by removing Nicole's 'billed' time, which will also result in decreasing the VAT unless and until we reinvest that money elsewhere (then we'll have to pay VAT on that expense instead). If we do want to grow, we should consider going after additional sponsors.

2022 Work Plan update
Survey going out. SIRTFI is wrapping up. Entity Category Support has good progress and the R&S 2.0 WG will meet next week to discuss the consultation feedback. MFA Profile v1.1 just started its consultation. Community chats have also gone well and allow for a different kind of outreach. We also had the MET update in 2022.

New chair for Assurance? Hoping this will be handled within the group; they have discussed this internally and may have
Planning for 2023 - community chat recorded today about how the workplan is pulled together; we can use that recording again and again in the future as part of the call for workplan items. Recording will be posted later this week.
The REFEDS meeting closing panel, IIW meeting notes, and ACAMP notes might provide inspiration

SC nomination status - we need to send a callout for steering committee participation. We normally do that around the beginning of the year. We will add a note about it to the REFEDS intro. Heath, Alex, and Albert are running out, but we never actually formally extended Pål and Maarten's term during COVID. There are no term limits. We will consider that done based on the feedback of this call.

With SIRTFI done, what's next? is there something for REFEDS to do to help encourage the use of SIRTFI v2? there are no carrots nor sticks to encourage adoption.
There needs to be some service that requires it; that's what will drive adoption.
We have the same situation with CoCo v2.
Maybe this needs to be something done in consultation with eduGAIN?
People are asking how to make use of these specifications, and there is no consistent answer. Federation is only useful when adopted at scale. Would be great if adoption was as automatic as patching.
