REFEDS Budget - we have reconfirmed all of our sponsors and invoices went out a while ago; this will result in the same budget we’ve operated on in the last few years. We do need to scope out more details for MET, but that may be postponed given everything else going on.* We do ask every year to get additional sponsors; we do ask during the survey and on the list, but haven’t tried anything more targeted than that. Should reconsider later this year whether or not to push harder
What’s the difference between MET and eduGAIN? MET is _any_ federation, but the data is a bit messier, and eduGAIN is only eduGAIN info and the data is a bit cleaner. What we have now in MET is fairly broken; updates may involve throwing out the existing code and starting fresh.

REFEDS was contacted on Friday by InCommon and Chris Whalen requesting us to help the promotion of R&S to enable access to research platforms. We have a blog post as well as tweets, and InCommon has offered a webinar on what it means to enable R&S. What else can we do? The InCommon videoconference turned into a technical troubleshooting call. SWAMID and the UK federation have also done some promotion of R&S. SURFnet will push something out in their newsletter to IdPs; note that SURFnet has an official requirement that in order to do R&S MUST do CoCo (which doesn’t entirely make sense given international SPs cannot do CoCo).
We have seen the registration of IdPs in China all of a sudden. There will be some outreach to them to help them get R&S sorted out.
Maybe we can create a generic slide deck so that each federation can do their own thing?

We should do something community-led to focus on in the June timeframe. Though a whole day in video conference is not going to work. Maybe 2-3 days of 2 hour sessions? Maybe regional town hall meetings, with some sprinkling of people from other time zones? Aim for midday at three regions - APAN region (AAF, CARSI, India), Europe/Africa, Africa, Americas. What about maturity levels? There are going to be significant maturity differences that may drive different topics.

We need to consider a common “what does it take to support research?” Regardless of maturity level? Maybe use this as an intro course about what we try to do in REFEDS. This is what REFEDS does, the problems we’re trying to solve, and what we think is important for you to take home to your federations. This is an opportunity to look in a mirror. Let’s reflect on the REFEDS message.
