Updates on working groups and consultationsLF

Progresses have occurred on the following items: 

1.REFEDS coordination

  • last meeting for 2016 is planned for the 29th of Nov in Geneva in conjunction with AARC. This meeting will be shorter and will focus on the plan for 2017. There won't be EWTI event this year. Rainer is working with ISOC and Kantara to plan a new event in the week of 20-24 Feb. 2017 (Fallback 6-10 Feb) in Vienna. As he is not allowed to use the EWTI name, the new event will be called TIME ( Trust & Internet Identity Meeting Europe).
  • we will produce the EoY report in Jan 2017 and by the end of Dec sponsors will be contacted to remind them that the invoices for the 2017 memberships will be sent. 

2. WGs - Most of them are progressing well, with the exception of OIDC - MK noted that material is rather scattered at the moment, but there is interest. LF said she will make an attempt to bring those eResearchers that are using OIDC to enable federated access to SPs. TL noted that at the moment there are no real experiences to use OIDC to run federations.

3. Promotion and Communication 

  • We aim to produce some material to promote ECs, in terms of what they are, benefits, how to support ECs, etc
  • Evangelic SP - AARC took the view this is not an item for AARC, but that GN4 should offer a tool like that.
  • Heather has just circulated the CIC cookbook - LF noted that CERN is looking for material for their cloud procurement. Any additional material produced (via AAARC) will be  made available on the REFEDS site.
  • On the library side, REFEDS has produced a factsheet - SC members are invited to comment on that (AARC Factsheet for libraries). 

4. Standards and Specs - nothing major to report since the last meeting

  • MET new updates have been concluded - the invoice for RETI (Andrea Biancini's company) has been paid
  • REEP/PEER - After various challenges, the new software delivered before the summer is now in production. There is also FAQ section. The migration was eventually contracted to Emergya which resulted in an additional 1500 eur. This rounds the work on REEP/PEER and the recommendation is to run REEP as best effort for the future but not invest any additional effort. The SC agrees with this.

REFEDS, AARC and GN4 are working on IAMOline for Europe. SK noted to have a transparent process to select topics for the webinar. LF said that for the long term it may be useful to have a committee with different representatives from campuses, e-infrastructures, research infrastructures and federations to ensure balance.

For the next call, LF and NH will present a plan to manage REFEDS in 2017 (further to NH's announcement to reduce her involvement).
