OutcomeDue to this we have decided to close down this REFEDS working group. This doesn't mean individuals within our community won't still track these changes.

The #fedcm channel in eduGAIN will be closed, the wiki will be locked with the meeting notes, comments and relevant links avaliable.

Thank you for the time spent, the knowledge you brought and the attention you gave this topic!
We'll organize again when changes to our authentication flows inevitably resurface.

Background

The working group was started out of concern for the changes browser vendors were proposing in reaction to the work of privacy advocates and governments, and the impact we saw this could have on our sector and the possibilities to advance our own solutions to work with these proposals.

Outside of the meetings within REFEDS we have since then we met with the vendors, participated in the work of standard setting bodies (W3C FedCM CG/WG & PrivacyCG) and written countless PR:s to push our perspectives and use cases.

Our efforts has affected the solutions that have been proposed. Our dedication and knowledge has been noticed and meant that our collegues have been invited to work closely with and be a voice for our sector on the most important parts of these changes.

Since then the industries affected by these changes has reacted, and many of the proposed changes (especially the breaking changes) has been put on hold, scrapped, or altered in such a way that they won't affect our sector in any meaningful way for the time being.
