  1. REFEDS meeting Read Out

  • Great response to the TRANSITS exercise; would like to do again, but the room was not conducive to it (too loud to  have effective breakout discussion)

    • Could we do other scenarios? This time was legal, but try another one later

    • Try something like role-playing theatre; tabletop exercise

    • Announce we’re going to do this and invite people to help create/coordinate

  • Suggest that we do more to make it easy for newcomers

    • Context setting blog post in advance

    • Acronym police who will mind for acronyms

    • Webinar for first-time attendees in advance

  • Target new speakers and federations to talk about their issues and how they are resolving them

2. Distinguished Engineer 2020

  • Need to verify what we have the budget for; announcements need to be made in January if we’re going to do it

  • Also, coordinate with Ann to see what we might do for Tech Ex next year

3. Blog ideas

  • Privileged vs non-privileged federations (Guy Halse)

4. Steering Committee

  • Is the SC doing enough, or doing the right things, to really look at the strategy of our collective work?

  • We are managing, no steering

  • We recognize the year to year work plan efforts but there may still be more we can do to look at the long-term; can we be more than just reactive to what the community wants?

  • Aiming for a 23 March, the day before the eduGAIN town hall

5 Service Catalogue

  • Suggest we take this back, starting with a focus on metadata

    • Example: start with cleaning up entity category-based services as a first thread to pull

6. Another suggestion (from the “Federation: We Got Issues” panel)

  • Developing a REFEDS outreach committee to help get the word out about FIM and collaborate beyond our usual suspects
