Discussion items

TimeItemWhoNotes
Review of work items and working groups
  1. REFEDS Survey - Plans are to continue with the REFEDS survey. Due to the REFEDS circulated by Steven Carmody close to TNC, it was felt to put the REFEDS survey on hold. Plans are to lauch it in Sept.
  2. Meetings -
    1. Meeting at I2 will be very focused on 3-4 topics, also in the form of panels and discussions.
    2. No EWTI event (Rainer will not run the event due to internal organisational aspects) - suggestion is to align the eduGAIN town hall meeting and a very short REFEDS meeting with the AARC meeting. Provisional dates are 28 Nov - 1st Dec.
  3. WGs - Heather contracted to help on some WGs.
    1. Sirtfi (Hannah) - running very well, implementation of sirtfi on the table now, however details need claryfing. There is significant push from the big research collaborations to deploy Sirtfi.
    2. Assurance - new WG created after TNC. Mikael is dealing with it and things are running smoothly.
    3. FOG - keeps running well
    4. OIDC - not enough work for the WG to keep going - so this should not continue in 2017, unless NRENs would like to really get interested in this. A possibility to bring new life in the WG, would be to get those eScience collaborations that are adopting OIDC to join the WG and report on their expericences. We could try and check their interest.
    5. IdP of last resort - working fine
    6. ORCID - a lot of discussion happening, but no concrete outputs from this WG.
  4. Promotion and Communication -

IAMonline EU  - Joint effort REFEDS, AARC, GN4 to organise something similar to the US.

Libraries work - Word done in AARC, has resulted in a pilot to bridge both IP-based authN and SAML-federated access. However, AARC was not in the position to make a significant impact. Not a lot for  REFEDS to do in this space. Miro noted that the support for persistent IDs and ORCID is something revelant for federations to look at.

Cloud - Idea is to work to prepare PR information to explain federated access for cloud providers. This will also be a joint AARC-REFEDS.

Evenagelic SPs - Take the static discovery guide, refresh that and make a website where you can login in.

DNS scope verification - Not a lot of enthusiasm to move this forward.

 Services
  1. MET - We have a contract in place to enhance the code (basically hiring Andrea who developed the code). Contract is waiting for GEANT signature, hopefully this will be solved after the holidays. LF to follow up.
  2. REEP - Code developed (thanks to ISOC funding) but not in production yet. Leif who was expected to migrate the code has encountered some difficulties. LF has contacted Emergya to ask them them to help. However due to the summer break not a lot will happen. LF to fllow up.
  3. FedLab - A bit of a situation with this contract. Roland pulled out, so Rainer is alone now. There has been a huge delay in delivering, the founding was coming from the different sources. Main problem is about changing directions.  The work was meant to deliver a pilot with the related documentation, but at the moment nothing has been provided. ACTION - NH to report on her conversation with Rainer (planned in a few days time). The goal is to take a step back and document what is needed, and see where the deployment should take place and how.

Report from attribute coordination and R&S consultation Entity categories - last call was very positive, there is consensus on the next changes. NH to send an email to SC to approve the changes.
Inputs for activities in the second half of the year A consultation will be open in Oct to solicit for inputs for new work, prior to the last f-2-f meeting. Any suggestion from the SC to this extend will be very welcome.

REFEDS Coordinator allocation moving forward.

NH announced that as of 2017 she will reduce her time allocation on REFEDS (plans are that she will step down as coordinator) due to her very high workload. There will be a discussion internally in Sept to hand over work part of the work to LF and to Heather if she is able to handle more work. More information will be shared with SC as they are available.
